Formal and informal partnerships involving
state agencies and community organizations

traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their families.
Traumatic
Brain Injury Service Coordination
Service coordination provides continuity as
a child with traumatic brain injury (TBI)
moves through stages of recovery and through
various aspects of the service delivery system.
The system is integral to identifying gaps
and barriers in services and information.

Traumatic
Brain Injury Course for Educators
This course builds capacity and expertise
among educators by improving and enhancing
their ability to serve children with traumatic
brain injury (TBI). The course provides a
basic modular curriculum that has been adapted
and used in other trainings.

Traumatic
Brain Injury Resource Team Project
This project involves collaboration between
the Council and the Arizona Department of
Education to increase awareness of the needs
of children with traumatic brain injury (TBI)
among educators. In addition, the understanding
of the educational system is increased, which
guides the Council’s systems development
efforts.

Brain Injury Educational Programs
These statewide programs for Arizona Health
Care Cost Containment System and Division
of Developmental Disabilities case managers
increase and enhance their capacity to serve
people with traumatic brain injury (TBI) by
providing an understanding of TBI and its
impact on the individual and family members.

Maricopa
Community Continuum of Care
This project cultivates local networks of
consumers, families, community-based providers
and organizations, government and service
programs to promote an improved service delivery
system for children with traumatic brain injury
(TBI).

Needs
Assessment
An ongoing process to gather information about
the issues that impact the quality of life
for people with spinal cord injury (SCI) and
traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their families,
this assessment determines the needs of individuals
with SCI and TBI and reviews the resources
available to them.

Traumatic Brain Injury
and Spinal Cord Injury Service Delivery
The Council provides funding to the Independent
Living Rehabilitation Services Program to
support direct services for clients with traumatic
brain injury (TBI) and/or spinal cord injury
(SCI). In addition, the Council provides educational
programs, informational materials, technical
assistance and support to increase and enhance
the capacity of the program.

Specialist Program
This program, along with the TBI Specialist
positions, were created to assist people with
TBI to secure and maintain meaningful employment.

Spinal Cord Injury Association
The Council contracts with the Arizona Spinal
Cord Injury Association to provide services
including information and referral, support
groups and counseling, consumer, family and
professional education, and social and recreational
activities.

Injury Association of Arizona
The Council contracts with the Brain Injury
Association of Arizona to provide an information
and referral system for people with brain
injury, their families and caregivers, and
service providers.

Arizona
Center for Disability Law
The Council facilitates networking among the
Arizona Center for Disability Law and other
community resources to enhance the advocacy
services for people with traumatic brain injury
(TBI).

Injury
Prevention
The Council provides funding to several community-based
organizations for primary injury prevention
projects for traumatic brain injury (TBI)
and spinal cord injury (SCI). These projects
include promoting bicycle safety and the use
of helmets and seat belts, and providing training
to increase the number of certified child
passenger safety seat technicians.

Prevention
of Subsequent Conditions
The prevention of subsequent conditions for
people with SCI addresses not only physical,
psychological and behavioral health concerns,
but also quality of life issues. The Council
provided expertise and facilitation to develop
an educational program that provides participants
with information and links them with community
resources.
